Got the same newly decorated and huge room with 3 comfortable queen beds booked online, loved that. The location in a quiet area was comfy and there where stores and fairgrounds nearby. Everything was perfect and within 5 minutes' drive of Monterey Peninsula airport.

The room was not clean. Condom wrappers under the bed and other trash Kids always find these things. Continental breakfast was poor and extremely miserly. No milk only powder for coffee and the offered muffins were cut into quarters. Besides the shelf was kept empty. You had to wait or ask. A Patel chain motel is always iffy I've learned

We had booked a Whale Watching trip for the next morning and wanted an inexpensive place to stay. The El Castell fit our needs perfectly. It appears to have been fairly recently remodeled. The room was large with side furniture and included a refrigerator and microwave. The facility is clean and while not within walking distance of anything but the fairgrounds it is centrally located. For being so close to both Highway One and on fairly busy streets the rooms are remarkably quiet.
There was some problem with the heater that caused it to quickly go on and off during the night. We turned it off. There was no coffee maker in the room and coffee was not available in the lobby until 7:00 - a minor inconvenience.
